Background
Five mental disorders (addiction, anxiety, dementia, mood disorder, and psychosis) cost the Austrian state 7.6 billion Euro annually. Additionally, mental disorders are the second most common reason that Austrian employees go into early retirement. The World Health Organization estimates that, by 2014, depression will be the most common serious disease worldwide.Building on the success of last year’s event, which was attended by numerous international and renowned speakers, the 2010 European Forum for Evidence-based Prevention (EUFEP) will take place on June 16 to June 18 in Baden, Austria.
The focus of EUFEP 2010 will be on evaluation and the economic aspects of evidence-based prevention programs for mental disorders and will be conducted in cooperation with the University of Vienna, the Danube University Krems, the Lower Austria Health- and Social Fund, and the initiative “Best Health” (Beste Gesundheit).
Target Audience
Physicians, nurses, health care academics, and decision makers in public health comprise the intended target audience. Nevertheless, the symposium is open to all interested professions.A special workshop on the contemporary debate surrounding evidence-based prevention will be held for journalists.
Program and Presenters
This year’s program will concentrate on the following areas:♦ National and international evidence-based prevention programs for mental disorders of focus groups such as children, youth, and the elderly
♦ Evaluation of “Mental Health” prevention programs
♦ Health economic aspects of evidence-based prevention in the area of mental disorders
Renowned Austrian and international expert are invited to share their experiences and ideas. The program offer participants the opportunity to gain and expand upon their knowledge on evidence-based prevention of mental disorders as well as offering insight into country-specific and international approaches.
